With its hundreds of campgrounds, the Vendée has plenty to offer. But you still have to pick the right spot!
Between Noirmoutier and Île d’Yeu, Saint-Jean-de-Monts, La Barre-de-Monts, and Fromentine share beaches, dunes, and pine forests. It is in the heart of this little corner of the Vendée, right by the sea, that many vacationers choose to stay at our campground in Notre-Dame-de-Monts for their vacations.
Since 1974, our family has been running Le Clos du Bourg, a 3-star campground in the Vendée. Of course, we know and especially love our coastline in the Pays de Monts! But to make sure you make the right choice, here are the criteria that really matter when choosing your next camping destination in the Vendée.
Where to camp in the Vendée, depending on the type of trip you’re looking for?
Between the ocean, pine trees, and a breath of fresh air
In the Vendée, choosing your destination is just as important as choosing your campground.
To the south, around Les Sables-d’Olonne, the large seaside resorts come alive in the summer. With a marina, long beaches, and entertainment, vacations here are full of action.
Inland, the bocage and the Marais Poitevin offer a different atmosphere, blending countryside charm with walks along the water.
In the northwest of the Vendée, welcome to the Pays de Monts, on the Côte de Lumière. Between the islands of Noirmoutier and Yeu, beaches stretch alongside dunes, marshes, and pine forests. Bike paths wind through the pine forest and connect the coastal resorts.
Why choose the 3-star Le Clos du Bourg campground in the Vendée?
Le Clos du Bourg Campground is located in Notre-Dame-de-Monts, in the heart of the Pays de Monts, between Saint-Jean-de-Monts, 10 km to the south, and Fromentine, 8 km to the north.
It takes about 15 minutes by car to reach the neighboring resorts and explore the many facets of the Vendée coastline.
Between the beach and the forest
Notre-Dame-de-Monts
At Le Clos du Bourg, you’ll be staying near downtown Notre-Dame-de-Monts. Shops are a 500-meter walk away. In the summer, three markets liven up the week, including the farmers’ market on Tuesday mornings.
Just 600 meters away, the Jardin du Vent is a great place for a stroll. Two kilometers away, the Pôle Nautique offers activities that let you explore the coast in a different way: sand yachting, stand-up paddleboarding, or surfing.
The Yeu Bridge
2.5 km from the Le Clos du Bourg campground, a rocky outcrop emerges at low tide, facing Île d’Yeu. Legend has it that the devil built it to reach the island. The view is well worth the effort: you’ll need to time your visit for a spring tide to get there.
Experience the Vendée
La Barre-de-Monts
Just 7 km from the campground, this village—with its harbor and marshes—is home to the Daviaud Ecomuseum. There, you can learn how the local farmers have shaped the Breton Marshes over the generations. A visit that offers a change of pace from days at the beach and lets you discover another side of the Vendée during your vacation.
Fromentine
Located 8 km from the campground, Fromentine is the departure point for boats heading to Île d’Yeu. This is also where the bridge connecting the mainland to Île de Noirmoutier begins. There are two ways to reach the Vendée islands, each with its own scenery and atmosphere.
Beaches, outdoor cafes, and walks along the waterfront
Saint-Jean-de-Monts
A 12-minute drive away, Saint-Jean-de-Monts offers a different atmosphere. The boardwalk runs along the sea, the outdoor cafes come alive, and the marine spa invites you to take a wellness break. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the excitement of a major seaside resort before returning to the tranquility of the campground at the end of the day.
Seaside, beach resorts, islands: distances from the campground
At Clos du Bourg, the car stays parked for most of your stay. You can walk to the village and bike to the beach. The drive to the neighboring islands and resorts never takes more than a quarter of an hour.
Les billets de bateau pour l’île d’Yeu sont en vente à l’accueil du camping, à tarif préférentiel.
What kind of lodging should you choose at Le Clos du Bourg?

You can purchase Puy du Fou tickets at the front desk of our 3-star campground in the Vendée at a discounted rate.
Which time of year should I choose between April and September?
In April and May, you can rent a site for a minimum of two nights, which is rare for a campground in the Vendée.
From mid-June through September, the water park is open. Activities are in full swing. Rentals are booked on a weekly basis, from Saturday to Saturday.
In July and August, with peak season in full swing, the campground is bustling. The Club des Petits Moussaillons, fresh bread at the front desk, and street vendors in the evening. A word of advice? Book early—even for a campsite.
